Folonia, the assistant you call
Call Oscar.
An AI that answers the phone, just like a contact. For what you need right now, when your phone’s in your pocket, your hands are full and your eyes are on the road.
Not open yet. Opening first in France.
Just one message, when we open. By email or text, whichever you prefer.
Four moments when your phone stays in your pocket
-

December, 7 pm. Gloves on, earphones in, phone deep in your pocket.
Will it rain before I get home?
- You : I’m just coming out of the Tube at Angel. Will it rain before I get home? It’s about twenty minutes.
- Oscar : A shower’s expected around 7:20 pm. If you leave now, you’ll get there just before.
- You : OK. Help me revise my Spanish while I walk.
- Oscar : Vamos. How do you say “it’s raining”?
-

An old car, Bluetooth, no screen.
How much further? And on the motorway?
- You : I’m in Lancaster. How long to Kendal on the A6? And on the M6?
- Oscar : On the A6, forty minutes. On the M6, thirty, with traffic coming into Kendal.
- You : I’ll stay on the A6.
- Oscar : You’ll be there around 7:20 pm.
-

On a motorbike, Siri in the intercom.
Rain further down the road: where does it start?
- You : I’m leaving Stirling. Will it rain before Edinburgh?
- Oscar : Dry as far as Falkirk, then showers. Steady rain over Edinburgh around 5 pm.
- You : Shall I take the back roads or stay on the M9?
- Oscar : The M9: you’ll save a quarter of an hour and get through before the heavy rain.
-

Your child, after football practice, on a phone with no internet.
He’s missed the bus. He calls Oscar.
- Your child : I’m at the Stadium stop and I’ve missed the bus. When’s the next one?
- Oscar : The 12 comes in eleven minutes, towards Town Hall. Get off at Town Hall, then it’s four minutes’ walk home.
- Your child : And is it going to rain?
- Oscar : Yes, around 5 pm. Put your jacket on.
Scroll to see all four situations.
Example conversations, shortened. Place names and times are given as examples.
A conversation, not a query
You don’t ask it a question. You call it, and you talk.
- You : “Hey Siri, call Oscar.”
- On a motorbike, helmet intercom
- Oscar : Hi, it’s Oscar.
- You : I’ve got a long ride ahead. Explain how a heat pump works.
- Oscar : Sure. A heat pump doesn’t make heat, it moves it. Outside, even at five degrees, the air still holds some…
- You : …hang on, what’s COP?
- Oscar : The ratio between the heat it gives out and the electricity it uses. With a COP of three, one kilowatt-hour of electricity gives you three kilowatt-hours of heat.
- You : OK, carry on.
- Oscar : So, the outside air holds heat, and a fluid…
With “Hey Siri, ask ChatGPT”, every question starts from scratch. With Oscar, it’s a call: you interrupt, you pick up again, you change the subject, and it keeps up. For as long as the journey lasts.
A call is something you hang up and call back. Nothing stays open on your phone. Interrupted by an incoming call? Call Oscar back whenever you like, from your recent calls, just like anyone else.
Where others can’t reach
There are moments when opening an app is already too much.
Phone locked, in your pocket
“Hey Siri, call Oscar.”
Or “Hey Google, call Oscar”. Once Oscar is in your contacts, the call goes through like any other, without touching the screen.
In an old car
Bluetooth is all it takes.
No need for CarPlay or a screen: the car’s hands-free kit does the job. On a motorbike, the helmet intercom. Your hands stay on the handlebars and the wheel.
No internet, no app
A phone that makes calls is all you need.
A mobile with no data plan, a keypad phone, a parent’s landline: Oscar answers on the end of the line.
Hands full
“I’ve got flour and two eggs, what can I make?”
In the kitchen, up a ladder, arms full of shopping: your phone stays where it is.
On the end of the line
What you need, right away.
The weather
“Will it rain before I get there?”
Places and opening hours
“Is the pharmacy on the high street still open?”
Journeys
By car, on foot or by public transport: the line, the direction, the stop, the time.
Understanding, learning
A word you heard during the day, a language to brush up on, an interview to prepare for.
Homework
Oscar explains, asks questions, and doesn’t do it for them.
Your home
Your lights, your heating, your garage, with Home Assistant.
Personalisation
The same number. Your assistant.
- Its name. Oscar, or whatever you choose.
- Its voice. The one that suits you.
- Brief mode. Short answers, for the road.
- Your places. “Home”, “work”, without reading out the address.
- Settings for each person. In a family account, everyone has their own.
- You : I’m at the station. How long to get home?
- Oscar : Twenty minutes by bus. The 12 leaves in four minutes, from stand B.
Folonia Junior Ages 10-17 · set up by the parent
Not the internet in their pocket. Useful answers on the end of the line.
A phone that makes calls is all it takes. For the weather, the bus home, homework or an everyday question, your child calls their assistant. You choose what it can do, and for how long.
- No app, no account for your child: you set everything up from yours.
- No browser, no social media, no open internet search.
- You switch tools on one by one: weather, bus and train journeys, homework help.
- With homework, Oscar explains. It doesn’t do the work for them.
- Oscar doesn’t pretend to be a friend and never promises to keep secrets.
- In a serious situation, Oscar gives them the right helpline numbers.
- You don’t read their conversations, and that’s deliberate: a child who’s watched at every word stops calling.

After football, a phone with no internet: “Which bus do I take home?”
- Your child : Will it rain when I come out of football?
- Oscar : Yes, around 5 pm. Take your jacket, or ask someone to pick you up.
- Your child : Which bus do I take to get home?
- Oscar : The 12, from the Stadium stop, in nine minutes. Get off at Town Hall.
For a loved one, an older parent
For someone who’ll never install an app.
Your mother calls Oscar from her own phone. Nothing to install.
- It speaks more slowly if you set it to, and repeats itself without ever getting impatient.
- It doesn’t sell her anything: you’re the one who pays and manages the settings.
- It doesn’t replace your calls, a doctor or a personal alarm service.

- Your mother : Could you say that again more slowly, please?
- Oscar : Of course. The pharmacy on the high street opens at 9 am. Nine o’clock.
Home With Home Assistant
Already out, and a nagging doubt: your home answers too.
- You : Did I close the garage when I left?
- Oscar : No, it’s open.
- You : Close it. Code four, seven, two, one.
- Oscar : Done, the garage is closed.
- You : And turn the heating down.
- Oscar : Done: set to 17 degrees.
- Nothing is exposed by default: you choose which devices Oscar can see.
- The connection starts from your home.
- Lock, alarm, gate and garage need a code, said out loud during the call.
How it works
Call.
Two minutes to try it, no account needed. Just talk normally, as you would to anyone.
Add Oscar to your contacts.
Like any other number. That’s what makes “Hey Siri” and “Hey Google” work.
Call it back like anyone else.
Through Siri or Google, from your car kit, your helmet intercom or, on foot, with earphones.

Frequently asked questions
When does Folonia open?
Folonia opens first in France, with a French phone number. We won’t announce a date until it’s certain, and we can’t yet say when it will reach other countries. Sign up: just one message, when we open.
Do I need a smartphone, the internet or an app?
No. A phone that makes calls is all you need: a mobile with no data plan, a keypad phone, a landline. You just need signal to make a call.
Does it work when my phone is locked?
Once Oscar is saved in your contacts, “Hey Siri, call Oscar” or “Hey Google, call Oscar” starts the call just as it would for anyone else. How well it works depends on the phone and its settings.
What about when I’m driving?
Use the car’s hands-free kit, CarPlay, Android Auto or the intercom built into your helmet. Never earphones while driving: in France, the law forbids it. And the road always comes first.
Does Oscar know where I am?
No: a call doesn’t share your location. You tell it where you are. “Home” and “work” are set up once and for all.
What doesn’t Oscar do?
Not yet: send messages, play music, remember one call to the next. Like any AI, it can make mistakes. And it isn’t an emergency service: in an emergency, call 112.
How much will the call cost?
From France, the price of a normal call to a French landline, usually included in phone plans. From another country, it’s a call to a French number, charged at your provider’s rates. The subscription itself has no commitment: Solo €9.99 a month, Family €14.99 a month, incl. VAT (planned launch prices in France).
